ANA is soon to go into the water and set sail around the Greek Isles. First leg of the journey takes her west across the Aegean, after picking up some crew on Kos.

Early May I will be heading out of Australia to board ANA in Greece.
She will be put back into the water on the island of Leros, and her first little sail will be down to Kos to pick up crew who are arriving from England and South Africa. From there we will journey across to the Cyclades.

In the next 6 weeks I will be off to Greece to take ANA, the global warming warrior into the Med and record and listen to stories about what folk may have experienced in climate change in their lives.
I skipper ANA but live in Australia, the most wonderful and beautiful country, but one which is plagued by a hole in the Ozone layer, and floods and bush-fires.
It is a country which produces and exports masses of coal, especially to China and indirectly is a huge contributor to greenhouse gases.

The Global Warming Warrior is currently in the boatyard on the Greek island of Leros and is being prepared for her voyage to the Cyclades and up to the Black sea. She will depart from the island around mid-May.

Global warming has for years, been discussed hypothetically–a threat in the distant future.
Now it is increasingly regarded as a fact. Climate change is happening right now. This shift means that all of us must start thinking about the many ways global warming will affect us, our property,our everyday lives. We have to begin thinking about adapting accordingly.
Adaptation is on the other side of the problem–trying to live with the changes in the environment and the economy that global warming has and will continue to generate, but it is going to be inevitable.
For years, adaptation was overlooked. Today adaptation has had to become part of the discussion.

Clouds over global warming
The following has just been released. It’s not good news about Global Warming and climate change. What do you think? Let us aboard ANA, the Global Warming Warrior, know.
“One of the world’s leading experts on climate change says a Nobel Prize-winning panel of scientists seriously underestimated the reality of global warming when it published its report just over a year ago.
Professor Chris Field, a leading member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which released the report, says he and his fellow researchers did not have access to vital data.
Professor Field says that a warming planet will dry out forests in tropical areas, making them much more likely to suffer from bushfires.
He says recent climate studies suggest global warming could also melt permafrost in the Artic tundra.
These events would release billions of tons of greenhouse gasses that could raise global temperatures even more.
The report did not have data on emissions of carbon dioxide between 2000 and 2007 which show far more rapid rises than had been predicted.
These increases in carbon have been caused principally by the burning of coal for electric power in India and China.
He has told an American science conference in Chicago that global warming is likely to accelerate at a much faster pace and cause more environmental damage than previously predicted.”

Australian Bushfires
Lurking in the background is a culprit called global warming. Is this just the beginning, an early warning, of a long downhill road where the ongoing threat of bush fires will grow worse and worse?
